MAX 2011
FlashPlayer 11 and AIR 3 Announced
Starling Framework Announced
Adobe just launched the Starling Framework today, in tandem with the official announcement of Flash Player 11. The Starling Framework allows simple AS3-style syntax access to Stage3D features, which means you can build 2D content that accesses the performance advantages of rendering on the GPU. Which, according to Adobe, will net you performance increases of up to 1000X. If you are a ActionScript 3.0 codes, and you were to access Stage3D features manually, you'd have to learn a whole new set of APIs, most of which are really low level. Starling provides a nice abstraction, and will let you code just like you were adding items to a normal Flash display list. ..

I just got back from the Adobe MAX conference, and it was an amazing experience. Adobe puts on an amazing show, to say the least. There were a ton of new product announcements, from Stage3D development frameworks, to a boatload of new tablet-based tools, to newly proposed additions to the WebKit framework, to building native extensions for mobile platforms with Adobe AIR.
